A Spring Dress

For my birthday last year I spent one of my celebration days with a friend making a dress for my dinky doo. A whole day of sewing-bliss!

Spring Dress

It was a great pattern, no hitches. The tiny pleats came out really nicely and the capped sleeves are sweet.

Here’s the pattern:

This spring I have some fabric in a canary yellow. I want to add a little black peter pan collar to the pattern.

Yay for the first signs of spring! Yay for spring dresses!

Patchwork & Quilting Dreams (Please don’t let this result in a knotted mess!)

I have fallen in love with patchwork quilts. They are beautiful. They have to be made with love (as they look flipping difficult and time-consuming). They tell stories. The patch designs have names like Grandmother’s life (or something of that sort) which is just amazing. Plus there are so many fun patterns and designs out there.

A friend of mine has been quilting for just over a year now. I have watched her progress from small squares to incredible optical illusion quilts. Amazing. I have been feeling the pull of the fabric and challenge for a while now.

Last week I realised I had missed her birthday. The pull gave into action. I decided I had to make her a special patchwork ‘something’. I’ve been crash course preparing by watching YouTube videos until I can recite them in my sleep. I’ve poured over facts about pressing seams in alternate directions. I have lovingly gazed at the rotary cutters on the shop shelves. I have trawled the interweb for simple patterns and tutorials.

Alas, the last night my mission began. I have 3 days until we meet up. I have 3 days to produce this lovingly made beauty. Oh gosh. The pressure just may be too much.

So, all you quilting patchworkers out there, I am going to blog my progress so that you can halt me with necessary advice and guidance! Or maybe just a word of encouragement. It took me 3 hours to design, faff, think, cut a template, cut three more as the seam allowances and sizing was all wrong, cut, and trim my fabric. Heck. It already looks wonky. 3 Hours people. 3.

So now I have 7 tiny pieces of fabric in front of me that need to somehow be joined together (neatly). However, it is late now (as I write this) and I don’t think ironing and sewing with sleepy eyes will reap any good rewards so I will leave you with a little (rough and ready) photo to enjoy.

Sewing Little Slippers Like the Shoe Maker’s Elves ~ Part 1

I have been meaning to start and finish this sewing project for A.G.E.S.

Initially,  I was going to make sheepskin slipper boots as I had a spare piece of sheepskin lying around [like us sewing fanatics do!] but unfortunately it was too thick to fit under my sewing machine foot.

So I re-thought and decided on felt slippers with a suede/leather sole.

The Minou chose her sole colour [think of ripe strawberries mixed with a few drops of cerise pink].

I got as far as a paper template,  which I then fashioned into two fabric templates [one huge, one just right].

That was many weeks ago. Finally, I cut out the actual fabric and made a start.

As it was so long since making the pattern I forgot to add my seam allowance!  So annoying, we’ll see if they turn out too small.

This is only part 1 as I have a way to go yet. Hopefully I will finish them sooner rather than later or else they certainly won’t fit!

It’s a Party Celebration

52 Create is a month old today!

How time has flown by. Thank you to all my lovely readers. It has been such fun sharing all my projects.

In honour of the anniversary I thought I’d share photos of a party we recently had chez nous.

There is a little someone with a bit of a Hello Kitty infatuation. She can hunt out a Hello Kitty from a mile away, no joke. I have no idea how this love affair started. She doesn’t watch it, we have little contact with Hello Kitty but somehow the clever branding has entranced my daughter’s psyche.

So to delight and captivate her for one day we went Hello Kitty crazy.

Here’s the evidence:

I decorated a lampshade a la Hello Kitty.

We had pin the bow on Kitty and of course she had to take cupcakes to her childminders the next day.

Breakfast table:

For her 1st birthday my maman made her a dress. Last year I made her a 1960s style red dress. Think Kennedy children:

This year I added, you guessed it, Hello Kitty to a dress pattern.

I will make her dresses each year until the lures of Topshop win her over.

I keep each one pressed in tissue paper once she has out grown it. If one day she has her own daughter they may get more wear and gather more memories.

Final photos of our window display:

Phew. That’s a lot of photos.

♥ Thank you again for checking into my posts ♥

Hopefully soon I will post a knitting project…
